Transformation for Design West
EM Print and Signs was appointed to manage and deliver a full exterior refurbishment project for Design West, a respected centre of excellence for design and placemaking.
From the initial concept through final completion, we were trusted to oversee improvements to the front of their premises. Because the property is a listed building, all work had to meet strict planning requirements and be completed to an exact specification. This included using specialist breathable paint to help protect the historic frontage.
Areas We Managed
- Full project management from concept to completion
- Painting the entire front of the building
- Repainting window reveals
- Revamping existing metalwork
- Installation of stand-off brass lettering
- Installation of a projecting sign
- Custom Mural Installation
- Scheduling works to meet a tight timescale due to the pavement licence for scaffolding
Careful Preparation & Painting
Before painting began, our team carefully prepared all surfaces, delicately removing the effects of many years of weather exposure while preserving the building’s character.
We then completed a full repaint of the frontage using suitable breathable coatings, refreshing the appearance while protecting the structure.
Custom Mural Installation
We also produced and installed a large mural template measuring 2000mm x 6650mm. Applying this to a rough cobb-textured wall created a unique challenge, particularly when achieving sharp, clean edges. Through careful planning and close attention to detail, we delivered a crisp, professional finish.
The Finished Result
This project is a great example of combining heritage sensitivity, skilled craftsmanship, and modern branding to transform a prominent listed building frontage.
